There was much praising of God when the chapel toilets were finally renovated, a job that was very well done by Rod Rowlands with the capable help of Caleb Zulu, Jeffrey Khumalo and Alex Zuma.

UBI Building & Maintenance Projects

The following are projects that were approved by the Management Committee as priorities for fund-raising:
Repair of the road system on UBI, this is becoming an urgent need and will require about R100,000. Please pray with us for the funds to come.

Building Three New Married Students Houses: (Estimated cost = R300,000 each, totalling R900,000).
- Each new house will accommodate 2 families in separate apartments, thus providing accommodation for 6 more student families. (If there are any vacancies, then we will use each apartment to accommodate 4 single students who will cater for themselves, thus helping UBI to discontinue operating the central kitchen, which is a very expensive system.)
- The new houses will be built exactly the same as the previous three MSHs which were built in 2001. Each building has 2 apartments consisting of a main bedroom, a 2nd bedroom, a combined bathroom-shower-toilet, and a combined kitchen-diningroom-lounge.
- The estimate cost of R300,000 for each building includes tiling the floors, building fixed closets in each bedroom, and providing the essential furniture for each student family (beds, stove, fridge, electric kettle and crockery and cutlery).

Renovating the West Wing of the Men’s Dormitories (Estimated cost = R100,000)
- This section of the Men’s Dorms is in desperate need of a major renovation.
- It consists of 3 dorms (which accommodate 6 students each), 4 outside toilets, 2 showers, an ironing room, a storage room and a laundry area)
- The 3 dorms need to be sub-divided into cubicles, fixed closets need to be built, work-surfaces need to be fitted, better lighting needs to be provided.)
-. The roof of this section is rusted and needs replacing.
- The roof of the laundry area needs to be re-structured before new roof sheets can be fitted.)
- The 2 showers need to be re-tiled and the hand-basins need new taps.
- The outside toilets need to be upgraded (new cisterns need to be fitted)
- The retaining wall of the laundry area needs to be rebuilt.
- The laundry are needs to be enclosed with ventilation bricks
As we end 2011, some of the above work in the Men's Dorm has been completed but there is still much needed work to be done to ensure the students have adequate surroundings and comfortable quarters.
